Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair

First Time At Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair

Freemasons Hall, 60 Great Queen St, Holborn, London WC2B 5AZ, UK

I had the opportunity to visit the Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair in London and it was so much fun! the whole experience was of-course vlogged! So check that our on my YouTube channel – @modestsisterz

Lessons learnt on my first trip to a Vintage Fair:

  • Define what is Vintage for you

Call me silly but when I hear vintage I picture 1940’s, 50’s, round hats, trunks and polka dots… In as much as there is some truth in my visualisation, the actual qualifying benchmark for vintage is subject to so many opinions, sales skills and garment overload on planet earth. My point being – your “vintage” is different from my “vintage”! Decide whats your vintage before you get bombarded by retails’ standard/opinions, therefore, losing the personal and unique fun in shopping vintage for your wardrobe.

  • Go with a plan/list of items you are hunting for

As the name suggests, this is a “fair”. My brain automatically replaces this with “market”! Which to me cheekily interprets – lots of vendors, lots of haggling and lots of variety. Believe me when I say, no list = stress & impulse buys… talkless of the pressure from Sellers when they see you are easily impressionable in that moment. Oh, & yes Hun! Do not be shy to haggle… sellers are 99% always ready for that, especially when you are paying with cash 😉

  • Go around the whole fair before committing to a store(s)/stand(s)

This is just another easy tactic to avoid pressure and to be in control of your purchasing decisions. If the pressure of “someone might buy it before I come back” creeps in, think about the following: every time you window shop you see something you like. missing out on one item is certainly not going to be an end to your shopping experience #SelfControlUnderConstruction

  • You DO NOT HAVE to buy!

I wanted to put this as the first point but I figured it may come across as a bit too strong & boring lol! This lesson is very true however! This was my first time at the Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair and I did not buy anything. This was a decision I made before leaving the house; for this to be an experience for insight and a fun, inspiration-filled day out in London! Now I know where this is at, I can plan future trips with great expectations.

  • If you purchase, keep your existing wardrobe in mind

This is standard advice for any purchase you make in life… have in mind where it’s going to go, its use and if you can maintain it. This is how you build a wardrobe you can love and enjoy dipping into. Remember delicate colours & materials sometimes require special cleaning methods… personally I know I am not up to it in this area so I always avoid lol. if you can handle this, however, (drycleaning, handwashing, airdrying, sponging, ironing, etc.) then go for it!
