My New Skincare Routine – as of June 6th, 2020

Today I am sharing with you a few latest additions to my skincare routine and my thoughts about them. You can check the full video on ‘My New Regimen ft. Cerave Cleanser + Lotion + REN Perfection Serum + TAO CLEAN ORBITAL FACIAL BRUSH’ on the YouTube channel.

Before that, I think it would be good to talk to you about my skin type. So, my skin is not very fussy/sensitive however it has suffered from a little neglect and lack of knowledge of a good skincare routine previously. My skin is on the oily side with some hyperpigmentation around the mouth area only and dark spots from the odd breakout. In this blog along with reviewing the products that have been working for me, I would like to give you a glimpse into my skincare routine.

Skincare Routine throughout the Day

Similar to many of you, I too follow a daytime and a nighttime skincare routine. A dermatologist from Kiehl’s recommended that my morning routine should focus on protection, while your night skincare routine should be mostly about restoring and repairing skin damages. She also mentioned my skin was laking hydration as opposed to moisture. This is why you will see the products I use focus mainly on hydration.

Cleanser

My current cleanser is a skincare product that I will not forget anytime soon. As a tip from me, so you too are able to pick out the best cleanser for your skin, take time to understand whether you have dry, oily, normal, or a combination skin type. CleanserAlmost all skincare products are specially designed for specific types of skin. This is why you need to know your skin type to be able to choose a product that is suitable for your skin. I have started using the CeraVe Foaming Hyaluronic Acid Non-Drying Cleanser For Oily to Normal Skin.

As your Style Consultant London and as many dermatologists suggest, cleanse your face well with a good cleanser. When using a new soap, don’t be afraid to ease your face into the new product by washing once a day with it. once everyone is well acquainted, you can routinely wash your face two times per day. In the morning, I splash my face with water and cleanse with my CeraVe Foaming Hyaluronic Acid Non-Drying Cleanser. For a thorough cleanse, especially if you had makeup on, use a dedicated makeup remover before using your cleanser.

Face Toner

Immediately after cleansing, I like to tone my face. Lately, I have been loving 2 products for this toning step and they are the Care Witch Hazel as well as a solution of 1sp apple cider vinegar with the Mother in a cup of water measurement. I alternate between these 2 toners depending on what I feel my skin needs that particular day. To be honest, I really appreciate toning as I find it preps my skin to take in the upcoming products as well as remove any leftover dirt from the cleansing step. At the same time, I also love that they are an easy step in my routine which means I can effortlessly keep this up which is very important. Consistency really is key in skincare.

Face Serum

Face Serum

Like cleansers, facial serums are designed for specific purposes. In my video, you will see I have been using the REN Radiance Perfection Serum. This multi-active serum is rich in vitamin C and it helps to brighten and rejuvenate skin. It also helps in minimizing pores and to even out skin tone. This can be used a morning and night serum under your moisturizer which I love because this stops my routine from having product overload.

Eye Cream

Always remember, eyes offer a glimpse of your overall health. Whether you are under excessive stress or facing sleeping troubles, it will be reflected through dark circles under your eyes. Besides, as you age, wrinkles may start appearing on your skin. It would be more evident around your eyes. Hence, like many other dermatologists, I too will suggest you apply eye cream regularly. It will soothe your eyelids skin and also give a smooth appearance in the surrounding areas of your eyes.

Moisturizer

Moisturizer

Now for the most obvious but not so simple step – skin moisturiser. Similar to the other face products, moisturisers tend to be built with a particular skin type in mind. Therefore, identifying your skin type will help you choose the ideal moisturizer. In my video, you will see I chose to buy the CeraVe AM lightweight hydrating facial moisturising lotion for normal to dry skin SPF 25. for best results in your routines, it is highly recommended to use products from the same range where you can. I have chosen to stick to the same brand for my cleanser and moisturizer to get optimal results.

Usually, night creams or moisturizers have a comparatively thicker consistency. They are designed to be absorbed in the skin for several hours throughout the night. The ideal time to apply your moisturizer is when your skin is still damp. Also, if you are using a night moisturizer, ensure that this is your last step in your night skincare routine. If you have extremely dry skin, you may try using facial oils before applying your moisturizer. For more specific advice for your skin, a trip to your closest Dermatology is highly recommended. That way, your products shopping trip will get you the best for your skin!

Sunscreen

In your daily skincare routine, I do not skip applying a sunscreen, no matter whether you are going out or staying in. It is usually the last step in your daytime skincare routine. It helps in blocking the UV rays from the sun so that my skin doesn’t get toasted in the sun. If you have acne-prone skin, skipping this step can further damage your skin. In case you have a breakout, without the protection of sunscreen, the affected areas of the skin will get darkened and take more time to heal. Therefore, if you share a similar skin tone with me, I would recommend using a sunscreen with SPF no lower than 50+

Facial Brush

facial brush

In my video, I also unboxed the Tao Clean Orbital Facial Brush System. Its powerful rotational technology helps in cleaning face more effectively. The soft bristles along with the spinning motion remove dirt, dead skin cells, and also residuals from makeup. It comes with a base station that helps in drying the brush head while charging and keep it safe from environmental pollutants. It is also waterproof and hence ideal for use in bath or shower. However, I do not plan on using it daily. it will only be a once a week use so I do not stress my skin.
